Sickle cell anemia: Sickle cell disease: Sickle cell trait. In this video, I have explained the cause, pathophysiology and lab diagnosis of sickle cell anemia or sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait. Sickle cell anemia is a genetic disorder due to mutation in the beta-globin chain where 6th amino acid glutamic acid is replaced by valine. It is a single gene disorder due to point mutation. There will be severe hemolytic anemia in the case of sickle cell disease.
