Two for Summer's closing shadows. "These Foolish Things" is a perfect song, coming from 1938 with lyrics by Eric Maschwitz and music by Jack Strachey, both Englishmen. When the song was written, Maschwitz was Head of Variety at the BBC. My rendering is as a lush Hammond Organ ballad, improvised on the spot, with plenty of block chords and drawbar magic, as the evening shadows begin to fall on Reed House, 9/1/2021. "September Song" is an American pop standard song composed by Kurt Weill with lyrics by Maxwell Anderson, introduced by Walter Huston in the 1938 Broadway musical production Knickerbocker Holiday. The song was recorded by Bing Crosby in 1943. I just heard Chet Baker do this with Bill Evans on piano....as a sultry and lovely ballad, so we'll play both of them in that mellow mood. The "Muse" is loose tonight, so flow along gently with us. "Life is Good" organ lovers, and I aim to keep it alive. 🌴🎹😎
