BUTI Alumni 30 Days of Practice Challenge Day 29/30 (ONE MORE DAY!) @bu_tanglewood Working on the opening of Forsyth Viola Concerto 1st movement here as I'm using it for RIPYO's Concerto Competition. I was so *positively* overwhelmed at all the kind comments I got here on social media when I posted my performance of this last month. I relate emotionally to this piece soooo much, falling in love with it at BUTI this summer. Of course the octaves at the beginning should be strong, but I am having to now be extra extra careful that they stay in tune because of the new left hand technique. Beyond technique, this piece is very OPERATIC in it's form, style, and character, and to me this opening section is like a "recitative", so I am trying to give the effect of a singer singing in "speaking rhythm", and have fun with the liberties I can take.
