India: New Delhi places of worship and malls reopen amid easing of COVID restrictions

Places of gathering had been closed all across India for over two months amid the coronavirus pandemic. Most of the houses of worship and malls in the city reopened on Monday and applied hygiene and safety measures to visitors, such as using hand sanitizer and going through body temperature checks. At Bangla Sahib Gurdwara, a prominent Sikh house of worship, devotees had to keep social distance and observe strict hygiene rules, including wearing a face mask. "It's a very good feeling and I am happy," said Parvee Valia, a devotee. "After two months of lockdown today, we have come to the Gurudwara, the arrangements are really good, everything is contactless and only after sanitising are we allowed inside. No problem at all, no one is touching the stairs, grills and even inside nobody is touching anything and offering their prayers. All precautions are well taken care of," she added. India is currently one of the most affected countries in the world by the health crisis with an estimated 265,928 confirmed cases according to data from John Hopkins University.
