We had a rude awakening the first Winter living at our Farm because we had only fuel oil for heat! We needed four tanks of fuel oil that Winter and it cost us about $8,000!! That much to keep our bedroom at 65 degrees! We added a wood burner in our living area to help out and that did help heat but it did not save us any money. We spent 8 years scraping by just so our pipes wouldn't freeze! So, because I build high performance homes and learned the value of heat pumps, we had a heat pump installed for $5,000 and now we use 1/2 of tank of fuel oil per year instead of 4-5 tanks making the return on investment/payback at less than a year!!!!!
