Over five years, Vince Gilligan slowly unraveled the pieces of a world unknown to the audience, and characters that seemed incomprehensible, yet also relatable and familiar. Vince won half the battle right at the very beginning when he created Walter White, a Caltech graduate who founded a company, left it mid-way, and then settled in New Mexico as a high-school chemistry teacher. Breaking Bad begins on Walter's 50th birthday when he is diagnosed with cancer. Gilligan managed to make Walter flawed, charismatic and relatable. A combination of film noir and western genres, the show aired in 2008 and ran for five seasons. Over the next five years, the audiences became deeply engrossed in a riveting human tragedy. The show was heavily influenced by Sopranos. Both Sopranos and Breaking Bad revolved around men trying to balance domestic issues while running major criminal enterprises in the background. Both the shows also combined routine domestic life with acts of violence, invoking serious shock amongst audience members. However, Tony Soprano was a rigid man who wouldn't change. Walter White, on the other hand, moved with the world. Breaking Bad entered the must-watch category with its very first season and its remaining four seasons established it as one of the best shows of all time. Netflix played a crucial role in enhancing the popularity of the show and providing it with the universal acclaim it eventually received. During its five-year run, Breaking Bad won 16 Primetime Emmy Awards and 4 Television Critics Association Awards. That apart, the show also holds the Guinness World Records for being the most critically acclaimed show of all time. This video is a treat for all Breaking Bad fans.
