@jeremyrichard27229 months ago This is days old but i wanted to mention two things. This will be long, especially the second part. Some might find it interesting though.
    1. When not a suggestion, just the point that legal abuses ike this are not new, and when civilized justice becomes unaffordable, that' s part of what these guys claimed to once offer an alternative to
    2. I just wanted to say that i do understand the exasperation over conspiracy theories. In the same place i was a fly on the wall for a lot of departmental manuvering and politics. Conspiracies are human nature.
the problem in the us and other civilized countries is that our concept of freedom and privacy makes things basically impossible to prove. In cases where conspiracy is alleged i have long felt the burdern should not be on the accuser. Rather the accused should have to prove it is not true, but from that position can decide what to provide to prove the accusation false beyond a reasonable doubt, without having the entirety of their privacy violated.
see, from watching such things as an outsider i' ve long felt the system as it stands now does not work, as oftentimes simply alleging something is " a ridiculous conspircy theory' is enough to defend some really unfair things which might be worse than what was alleged. I think if there is a given result, and someone questions that result in a serious way given what it looks like, then the beneficiaries should be requred to prove leigimacy, especially if something massive is at stake, or someone has something substantial to lose.
also remember in the us many things that would have been considered conspiracy theories are allowed to operate openly. I mean both major parties have huge national conventions that coordinate everything from finances, to activists, to talking points, right down to what talking heads you can even vote for. They both also prevent any other political parties from forming, representing any other major, organized, point of view. On top of that look at businesses, many corporations are so huge not even the most powerful governments can outright say all of what some of them own or control. You also have huge alliances of businessmen like citigroup that coordinate global finance and activity. On a smaller level you have groups of businessmen who orga nized for shared benefit based on everything from shared religion (like say christian business owners or whatever) to religion, to sexual orientation.
the point i' m getting at is that a lot of conspiracy theories don' t need to have some kind of covert angle. I mean we know the democrats and rerpublicans set national strategies and such. We also know that you have different groups far smaller than that which openly work together for shared interest. One way to deal with a lot of problems would be to break a lot of these groups up. You don' t need to be the illumanatus when you can just declare yourself a global super-pac and do it all in the open and scream " right of privacy' at any country that might want to look at things. Think about that. You don' t need a hollowed out volcano or fortress in the bavarian mountains when you can just buy an office building or twenty and put your logo on the outside. Many of the groups like citigroup don' t even deny what they try and do a this point, it' s about accountability and breaking them up, not proving conspiracy for the most part.
that' s sort of why right or wrong someone like upper echelon has an issue. These guys don' t even need to be particularly secret about it, and as long as he stays within the system, it' s difficult to do much. That' s why groups like the mafia started, they got sick of corrupt merchant lords running everthing and fuctionally controlling the system. Albeit they became just as bad themselves.
speaking for myself, if this guy is really that bad, rather than just doing a go fund me, i' d consider pleading my case to something like anonymous in 4 chan. Oh sure, that might just get him laughed at or even harassed, but let' s be honest, sometimes something like this does catch the fancy of the primal chaos of the internet if it is honest and well intentioned. They have shown an odd sense of justice at times. That might do more than trying to fight this in court ever would. It would of course depend on him being right, and above board, and perhaps more than anything, tickling their fancy

everything can become a conversation no matter how degenerate it is, sometimes necessary for people with crazy ideas, neo-nazi or whatever it is to argue against them. If they is no conversation who is gonna argue why its wrong or how its wrong. We need to speak about hard things more and not less

  • @
@austinm56309 months ago It doesn't matter even if he does reveal all his cards. "The truth is an absolute defense to a defamation suit." That's legalese. In plain english, if the defendant can prove to a reasonable degree of certainty that his defamatory statements are true, then he wins the case by default, usually on a Motion for Summary Judgment long before a Trial. Therefore, UEG's best defense is to lay it all out. If what he claims in his videos is, in fact, all true, then the case will never make it to a trial. Which, among other things, will cut his legal bills in half.
I watched UEG for years. I stopped because I honestly do not care about this drama crap he digs up, and his style would be best described as "abrasive" (much like The Quartering and several others who I seldom disagreed with, but still got tired of hearing.) That said, I've never doubted his integrity. Nothing he says as a factual statement is said without evidence or sources who have no obvious incentive to lie. He's got as much journalistic integrity as the best of them.
So yeah, he'll win the lawsuit most likely. Sadly, the case is filed in New Hampshire which as best I can tell lacks an anti-SLAPP statute, so he's probably not getting his attorney's fees back. He might want to contact the EFF though. This is exactly the kind of case they tackle, and when they take a case, they do so pro bono.
