Tamiya Grasshopper front suspension arm upgrade, to use vintage oil damper, which adds vintage look

Published 24 May 2020

Grasshoppers original front suspension is really tricky to modify, because the length between upper shock mount and lower mount is too short, unlike any other modern buggies. (This is changed in grasshopper 2). This prevents from adding proper oil shocks in front, leads to many many users to modifying it. I am fine with the modification, but sometimes they go too far, and lose hopper's original old school look. I wanted the front suspension use vintage thin shocks to maintain it's beautiful 80's look, meanwhile offer better damping capability. I changed my own front sus design to fit thin dampers with up to 70mm long. I used original hornet / wild one's shock as an alternative. It really looks great and works fine!!
