#FOXNews #Bias #Ratings FOX News Channel is bumping prime time news show host Martha MacCallum to day time in order to replace her 7P EST "The Story" with an opinion show. They're doing this to increase viewership lost after the 2020 Presidential election. FOX News saw a significant decrease in viewers after calling Arizona for Biden earlier than many other outlets. Many of those viewers transferred allegiance to Newsmax and OAN. Since then, FOX has been losing in certain ratings slots to rivals CNN and MSNBC. @31michelle643 years ago Discovered fnc in 20 when i moved from wa state to tn and had my eyes opened to the huge difference in how news was reported (former journalism student, fnc became our channel. When we moved back to wa, fnc was then available on cable providers.
fnc became the force that is was, but had already begun to change before the election season of 2020. Had always appreciated both sided being presented, juan williams, bob becker, donna brazil, shep smith are names that are liberal, other voices not quite as obvious, still others quite obviously conservative hannity, tucker, guilfoyle.
election night was wild and people were caught of guard and felt off guard, and frankly betrayed. I think fnc has lost their core audience, and they won' t be lured back. I can watch tucker on yt, same for hannity and laura if i am so inclined.
am very excited to watch newsmax and oan grow

@fightingusik42653 years ago You make a fair point about giving the perception of wanting more bias but i would say there is another angle there. I say the issue is the viewer' s when they decided to go with a definitive left-leaning bias for the election, then that was the end for me. Not just because of the bias shift but because there was nothing left to keep me there. They surrendered any semblance of " fair and balanced" and then chose to inject a leftist bias. Cnn is already a thing.
i doubt fox will shift further right as they move further from any kind of pure journalism

  • @
@dsburks3 years ago You' re raising some good questions alison, and they' re clearly provoking some interesting responses. Here' s mine:
    1. Fox was abruptly 2. Good journalism - in my book - has always provided lots of room for opinion. Many folks like to be encouraged ' what to believe and why' if for no other reason than to more fully understand that point of view. But good journalism also requires that it be labeled as such, and confined to proper op-ed and opinion
    3. However painful or pleasing a lead may be, good journalism also requires a clean smell test. Unbounded use of unnamed sources, less than half the story, distorted facts, and a myriad of other revealingeasily classify the political perspective of the author.
again, in my opinion, much of the msm has made a simple economic decision regarding what political demographic they wish to pursue. Even former statesmen like the nyt. They are statesmen no longer.
i' m optimistic. The technology is changing and creating lots of opportunities. There will always be a large audience for straight facts. It will be fun to watch the scramble

@MrNottocd3 years ago I would not have heard about the Fox News change if I had not watched this. So, I'm wondering how are they getting the word out, and will the people that left actually here about the change. Which is a separate issue than is the change something that would bring me back.
But, first, I remember when news was reporting the events of the day with a much smaller amount of bias. To me that's news, a telling of what happened, with some amount of consequence thrown in there. However, my favorite way to describe "news" channels, is they are current events media (formerly known as news) agencies.
From my point of view, Fox was starting to drift toward the left (I suppose becoming more centrist) months before the election. I was becoming increasingly dissatisfied with this new point of view. Their election coverage, and the subsequent coverage, is essentially what sealed the deal. They became an irrelevant source.
The only current events person I watch regularly is Scott Adams, but, he's not news, he's never pretended to be news. But, still I like his perspective. And one of the things he does and encourages is to watch, or at least be aware of what's being shown on a spectrum of shows. So, I'm aware of what's happening on CNN, and other left leaning media. I also watch OAN, Newsmax, and Epoch Times. Fox became irrelevant because it feels like it's trying to please everyone, but, ending up pleasing no one. Fox had nearly exclusive content for the right leaning audience. But the moment they started to drift left, they were essentially swimming to the crowded end of the pool. And the moment they started their drift, their audience suddenly had motivation to see if Fox had competition, turns out they did.
Looking at it's easy to see that certain stories are not covered equally. And one of the lessons I'm learning from Scott Adams is spotting fake news, which requires being aware of multiple sources.
All that being said, are these changes what would draw me back to Fox? No, these are the wrong changes. The right changes would be to go back to a more solidly right leaning point of view. But, I'm thinking what was their audience has discovered other sources. Their never going to be as single sourced as they used to be.
